Not much form on offer in the first division of the maiden hurdle at Gowran (2.20pm), and it is worth chancing an improved performance from An Epic Song.

The four year old finished down the field on his only start in France for Arnaud Chaille-Chaille last May.  However, that yard was completely out of form at the time, and it’s worth noting that An Epic Song had held some pretty strong entries at around the same time, including the Prix Gacko at Compiegne and the Prix Wild Monarch at Auteuil.

This is far from a strong race and the horse has joined a really capable trainer, who had a 33-1 newcomer win over hurdles at Punchestown yesterday.  A well-bred son of Authorized, he fetched €72,000 as a yearling and the fact connections have persevered (he has switched out of Sean Mulryan’s ownership, but has joined a yard he is closely associated with) suggests he has shown enough ability to win races.
