Royal Ascot Tips and Racecourse Guide
Royal Ascot is a highlight of the British social calendar, providing five consecutive days of top class racing with £6 million of prizemoney on offer in mid-June.
Royal Ascot is broadcast by partners including ITV, NBC and Sky Sports Racing. The traditional highlight is the Ascot Gold Cup for staying horses on Ladies’ Day, Thursday, but the purists tend to prefer the opening day, which features three Group One contests.
The race program is made up of Group races, conditions races and high-class handicaps. The World Pool tote betting operation means bettors from territories such as Hong Kong and South Africa can bet into the same pools, leading to some attractive dividends on long-shots, swingers and exactas.
The Royal Enclosure is available to members, their guests and connections of horses running. The dress code for ladies is formal wear with a hat. Men must wear morning dress with a top hat.
In the Queen Anne enclosure, where most racegoers are, ladies must also wear a hat. Men must wear a suit and tie.

The 1m6f handicap at Ascot (2.25pm) has a warm favourite in Spanish Kiss, who looks to hold strong claims in his bid for a hat-trick of wins for William Knight, but at a bigger price Indianapolis looks the bet.
The Ian Williams-trained six year old joined his current connections late last year, was gelded soon after and was well found in the market on his debut for the yard in the Betway Queen’s Cup at Musselburgh in April. However, he was below his best both in that and in the Chester Plate at Chester’s May meeting.
The cheekpieces came off for his third run for the yard, at Newmarket in May, and I actually thought he went well enough, for all that he wasn’t at his best. The form has worked out well and he did run to the line after being outpaced.
He is now off a mark in the 80s for the first time in his career, drops in grade and comes here fresh, which is a positive given his two previous wins have come off the back of 5-7 week breaks. His form was stronger in the second half of each of his two seasons with James Given and the close third at Haydock in September off 9lbs higher shows how well treated he is now.
His course form is also a big positive – he won the Shergar Cup Challenge here in 2019 and ran really well from a wide draw to finish fifth in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot last year off a mark of 99. Now 10lbs lower and with the cheekpieces refitted, he looks a value alternative to the favourite.

The fillies' maiden at Ascot (2.50pm) features five unraced juveniles, but Omniqueen has been the subject of positive reports prior to today's debut and the 200,000gns breeze-up purchase can give trainer David Loughnane another juvenile winner. Sire Tasleet has had...
Le Cadeau could be France’s new sprinting star
Henri-Alex Pantall's Le Cadeau (pictured, © Scoop Dyga) continued his fine run of form to land a conditions race yesterday at Chantilly against three-year-olds with Listed pretensions. Making his tenth racecourse start, Le Cadeau clearly thrives on his racing and has...

Donnacha O'Brien's Nicest ran really well to finish third at 33-1 for us yesterday and I'm hoping he can do us another favour in the Albany (2.30pm), with Elliptic worth supporting at double-figure odds. She was well-supported on debut over 5f in April and easily...

The Ribblesdale market is rightly headed by Noon Star, whose second in the Musidora looks all the better now following Snowfall's demolition job in the Oaks, but at a big price I like the chances of Nicest, who is bred to make an impact at this level and looks a filly...

The Queen's Vase has been dominated by Aidan O'Brien in recent seasons, but it's a race in which Mark Johnston also has a fine record, having won seven renewals between 2001 and 2014, and his Dancing King looks a cracking each-way bet today. He won the same Haydock...
