Though the novice chase has only attracted three runners, it looks a fascinating little contest, in which the Sandy Thompson-trained Empire Steel looks value to overturn the Dan Skelton-trained favourite.

Though he has plenty to find on official ratings, Empire Steel was really impressive when scoring on his chasing debut and drew well clear of the third when beaten just a neck at Ayr last time.  His trainer is a dab hand with these staying chasers and he can make the most of the 4lbs he is receiving from Protektorat, who has a definite class edge, but may well prefer better ground and is stepping into the unknown as regards the trip.
