UK Horse Racing Tips – 14 September
We have two selections today, both come this evening at Wolverhampton.
Tip 1 – 6.20pm Wolverhampton
Astaroth is a likeable and progressive colt but he could be starting to plateau with successive rises in the weights. He isn’t sure to benefit from this extra distance so the percentage call is to look elsewhere.
Whitcliffe has drifted to a backable price and is the selection on his nursery debut. There are mixed messages in his pedigree in regards to this sterner test of stamina but he shapes as if he will relish it. Kendargent’s progeny also have a better record on artificial surfaces and many of them relish the extra distance when upped to a mile and beyond.
The form of his three runs in novice company is nothing to write home about. He, nevertheless, has progressed with each run and his opening mark of 71 doesn’t look insurmountable. Improvement could well be forthcoming now handicapping at a lower level.
There is a strong chance that he could get a relatively easy time of things on the front. Even if he doesn’t, he’s likely to sit handy and they shouldn’t go too quick. He should be in the prime position to strike turning for home regardless.
6.20pm Wolverhampton – 1pt win Whitcliffe 7/2 general
Tip 2 – 6.50pm Wolverhampton
Despite the double-digit field size, only a handful of these realistically have plausible claims. Perthshire has a huge amount going for him. He has been backed throughout the day but I think he should still be a fair bit shorter.
Perthshire has plenty in his favour. He is a three-year-old receiving a generous weight-for-age concession over this marathon trip from exposed older horses. Yet to race over a trip this far, he shapes like a thorough stayer. His last two starts, both at Wolverhampton, have been his best to date and this further step up in trip can illicit further improvement. This appears a great opportunity for him to get off the mark.
