Castan took a nice step forwards when making a successful handicap debut at Musselburgh last time.  That form has been franked by the runner-up (who re-opposes today) and he can follow up at Carlisle this afternoon (1.00pm).

Bryan Smart’s juvenile overcame a slow start last time, but was well on top at the finish and this track should play to his strengths.

1.00pm Carlisle – Castan win @ 3-1 (most firms) 

Grant Tuer’s team haven’t been rattling along in quite the same way as they were last term.  However, they do seem in good nick at present and Sophia’s Starlight can give them another winner this afternoon (1.30pm).

Third on debut at Newcastle earlier this month, she finished just behind a subsequent wide-margin winner that day.  She is the only one of the yard’s two year olds to hold a Group entry (Rockfel) and this looks a great opportunity to get on the board.

1.30pm Carlisle – Sophia’s Starlight win @ 11/10 (most firms)

Second in this race last year and a subsequent winner over this course and distance, Captain Corelli comes here on the back of a career-best win at Pontefract last time.

He has conditions in his favour, his yard is going well and Danny Tudhope is a positive jockey booking.

3.45pm Carlisle – Captain Corelli win @ 100/30 (most firms)
