Today’s UK tips go at Chepstow, the first of them in the 6f Class 5 handicap (2:20pm).
The Alice Haynes-trained Mashaan shaped last time over 7f at Doncaster as though a step back in trip may reap rewards. That was his first start back on turf since switching from the Richard Fahey yard. Previous to that he had put in a solid run of results on the AW surface at Kempton, Lingfield and Chelmsford which included 2 wins and 2 placed efforts from 5 starts.
This horse likes to get on with things and led for a long way at Doncaster before weakening late on so the 6f trip should aid his chances of success, while he showed there that fast ground is no issue. Another appealing factor is that he is drawn closest to the rail which is a big advantage at Chepstow. With the selection being a front-runner he’s best placed to take full advantage of the plum draw.
Alice Haynes has made a really good start to her training career and her team remain in good nick. Regular rider Kieran O’Neill is once again on board and Mashaan looks capable of running a big race today.
RECOMMENDED BET: 2:20 Chepstow – Mashaan each-way 15/2 4 places (most firms)
In the following two-year-old maiden, it is worth supporting Archie Watson’s Brave Emperor on second start.
Nothing went right for him on debut, as he stumbled badly after less than a furlong and was always playing catch up from there on. Short of room, he kept on when in the clear and shaped as though he will come on a good deal for the run.
That experience will stand him in very good stead and this son of first-season sire Sioux Nation (who has made a very strong start, with four winners already on the board) looks a surefire improver. Watson has his team in sparkling form and Hollie Doyle taking over in the saddle is another positive.
RECOMMENDED BET: 2:50 Chepstow – Brave Emperor win @ 9/4 (all firms)
