Mick Appleby has his team in fine form at present and the well-handicapped Barrington could be another to strike for the yard at Doncaster this evening (5.50pm).

Four of his top six career performances have come on either GF/Fm ground and though he has a poor career win record (2-40), that includes 21 runs on the AW without any success.

He is 10lbs lower in the weights than when third in unsuitably soft ground at Chepstow last summer and his mark has come down for running on the AW over the winter.  He also shaped as though the run was needed on his return at Nottingham last time.

Alongside the tongue-tie worn last time, the visor goes on for the first time since finishing a nose second at Kempton Park last July and the booking of in-form apprentice Frederick Larson, who is attached to the yard and claims a very valuable 7lbs, is a positive one.  The pair combined to land a similar contest at the last meeting here with one that was winning for the first time at the 19th time of asking.

5.50pm Doncaster – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Barrington @ 17/2 (Skybet (4 places), 888sport, though 9-1 available with Bet365, 8-1 elsewhere).
