Some really competitive racing at Doncaster this afternoon and we head to the second race, an 18-runner 7f handicap, for our bet on the card.

Society Lion was out of sorts for Ed Dunlop last term, but as a consequence he starts this year on a career-low mark and with the yard going well, he may be able to make a winning reappearance.

A close second in a red-hot three year old handicap on his sole start here when in the care of Sir Michael Stoute, he went on to score at Glorious Goodwood in August 2020 off a mark of 91, 8lbs higher than his rating now.  Cracking efforts in defeat followed off marks of 96 and it’s easy to see why connections went to 180,000gns to acquire him at the Horses In Training Sale that autumn.

Ed Dunlop has had a couple of winners for Society Lion’s owner Paul Turner in recent days and he tends to do well with his older horses here, with a 33% strike-rate in the past five years.  Our selection has the ground to suit and could have a class edge in this field.

RECOMMENDED BET: 2.00pm Doncaster – Society Lion @ 16-1 (all firms, except 18-1 with Bet365)
