The 2m1.5f handicap hurdle (2.00pm) doesn’t look a strong race for the grade and at the prices, it is well worth taking a chance on Court Royale bouncing back to form.

The eight year old is really well-handicapped on his old form over hurdles, but also on last season’s chasing exploits.  He won off a 4lbs higher mark than today’s in a novice handicap chase at Taunton last October, and went on to finish second in a class 2 handicap chase at Chepstow in April off a 6lbs higher mark.

The wheels came off after that, but I didn’t think he ran as badly as the result may suggest at Worcester in mid-June, when the Evan Williams (pictured) yard was a little quiet, and the 11-week break should have served to freshen him up for an autumn campaign.

This is a weaker race than most he has contested, unsurprisingly given he comes here on a career-low mark, and he looks overpriced to take advantage.
