It’s fair to say chasing hasn’t yet proved to be the making of Sambezi, but he returns to hurdles off a fair mark and is worth supporting at Musselburgh today (4.05pm).

He ran well for a long way at Leicester on his second start back from a break in December, just not seeing out the 2m4.5f trip, and the switch back to the larger obstacles hasn’t worked, as he made a race-ending mistake early on at Fakenham last time.

A bumper winner back in October 2020, his hurdles form of last season reads well, finishing a good second at Sedgefield (third won next two) before scoring at Fontwell Park.

This is a long trip for one runner from a small yard, and it’s interesting Gavin Sheehan is making the journey up to Scotland as well.  Oliver Signy has had three seconds from his last four runners, so the team are running well.  Hopefully Sambezi can give them a deserved winner today.
