A big field of two year olds for the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury (3.20pm) and I’m taking a chance on Karl Burke’s Attagirl.

The daughter of Wootton Bassett, she showed lots of speed when a close third on debut at Haydock in June and followed that with an easy front-running success at the same course early last month, winning eased down and in a good time.

Things didn’t go to plan at Ascot last time – she raced keenly and close to a strong pace and it was no surprise she didn’t see out the six furlongs.

She’ll clearly need to better that form to be competitive here, but the drop to the minimum trip for the first time looks a good move and she showed sufficient ability at Haydock to suggest she can go close in a race of this nature.

3.20pm Newbury – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Attagirl @ 16-1 4 places (most firms, though 16s 5 places with Skybet)
