A ready winner at Wolverhampton on his debut for Mick Appleby a fortnight ago, Fox Power has drifted to a very big price to follow up at Newcastle today and is worth supporting.

There’s no doubt he got the run of things in front at Wolverhampton, but the manner in which he quickened entering the home straight suggests Appleby has found a key to him after heavy defeats on his final two starts for Richard Hannon last year.

He had gone 17 starts without a win previous to that Wolverhampton success, his last win having come over this course and distance in a Listed contest back in April 2019.  That was the best performance of his career, so the return here for the first time is a plus.  He has only gone up 3lbs for that win last time (though jockey Frederick Larson claims 5lbs on this occasion, instead of 7) and is actually down in grade.  There are a couple of in-form rivals in opposition, as well as the unexposed Noman on his return from a break, but Fox Power is overpriced to record back-to-back wins.
