Newbury Tips and Racecourse Guide

A Grade 1 track both on the Flat and National Hunt, Newbury is one of the most prestigious racecourses in the UK.

With 29 fixtures a year across both codes, there is plenty of racing action, with the highlight of the flat season being the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes in May, while the Grade 3 Ladbrokes Trophy in November is one of the biggest betting races of the year over jumps.

UK Racing Tips – 20/02 Pt 1

The 2m novices’ handicap chase at Newbury (3.05pm) looks a good opportunity for Shakem Up’Arry to bounce back and record his second win over fences.

The eight year old has always been well-regarded by trainer Ben Pauling and finished runner-up in last season’s Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle.  Having unseated on his chasing debut in November, he got off the mark in great style at Haydock next time.  He was no match for Minella Drama in the Grade 2 Altcar Novices’ Chase at the same course on his latest outing, but the return to calmer waters will certainly help and this track should play to his strengths.

RECOMMENDED BET: 3.05pm Newbury – Shakem Up’Arry win @ 11/4 (all firms)
