NEWCASTLE – Racing League

Andrew Balding’s Scampi is bidding for a hat-trick of wins, 10lbs higher than when he began his winning sequence at Epsom in July. He handled a 5lbs rise well at Doncaster, beating three-year-old filly Wynter Wildes who is 5lbs higher this time out following her success at the track recently. The gelding will give 12lbs to his younger rival but is a tough competitor and Charlie Fellowes’ course and distance winner will need to be on top of her game to reverse form.

Market leader Postmark is a danger if able to stay the extra distance, stepping up in trip. He has been in good form over shorter trips and this extended mile-and-half should be within his capabilities.

5:45pm Newcastle – Scampi 1pt E/W @ 7/1 (most firms)

A competitive handicap run over 7f is the fourth race on the card at Newcastle. It may be advantageous to be drawn high and current favourite Out From Under, drawn in stall 13, is likely to be dangerous. The progressive colt has been extremely consistent in his career to date, and won on his all-weather debut when last seen at Kempton. He had 5lbs claimer Harry Davies onboard that day and is now rated 6lbs higher with Frankie Dettori taking the ride.

Course and distance winner Fresh Hope did well to prevail at the track last month, beating Alrehb by a neck whilst appearing to have a bit in hand when surging late through the field. She is 3lbs higher, running off a mark of 87, receiving the allowance, and is certainly a threat.

An alternative may be Kevin Philippart De Foy’s Street Kid. He was beaten a head by Cry Havoc at Lingfield when last seen returning from a 257-day absence. The four-year-old gelding runs off a career-high mark of 89 here, but should be sharper this time out and is drawn high in stall 11.
