UK Horse Racing Tips – 13 October

Competitive action across the UK today with good flat cards at Bath, Kempton Park and Nottingham. Those cards are joined by a decent quality jumps card at Wetherby. We have two selections today, one at Bath and one at Kempton Park

Tip 1 – 1.55pm Bath

Those towards the top of the market in this nursery don’t set an insurmountable standard and are relatively uninspiring. Their respective yards are also struggling for winners lately so I’m happy to look elsewhere.

One of the least unexposed runners who is of interest is Chiqueador. She showed nothing on her first two starts but looked a completely different proposition at Lingfield last time. The daughter of Decorated Knight travelled comfortably in the lead and only gave way inside the final furlong over 7f.

She had been noticeably strong in the market on her debut but failed to live up to expectations. If she steps forward from the Lingfield run again, this mark doesn’t look beyond her. The drop back in trip looks a sensible move and the yard are operating at a 29% strike rate in recent weeks.

Her inexperienced claimer, Mia Biggs, takes off 7lb too. I’d normally be wary of betting horses ridden by such inexperienced riders but Mia Biggs has made a promising start to her career. The draw in 13 isn’t ideal – actually 10 with the non-runners – so hopefully they get a good start, sit handy and replicate the Lingfield tactics which seemed to work well.

1.55pm Bath – 1pt win Chiqueador 10/1 general (some 12/1 available)

Tip 2 – 6.00pm Kempton Park

This is an excellent race with 10 of the 11 runners tightly compacted rated between 86 and 90. I’m very interested to see Run To Freedom back down to 6f. He’s a half-brother to Twilight Son and Music Master, both of whom were high-class sprinters. I don’t wish to question the wisdom of Henry Candy given he knows the family so well, but I’ve felt all season like a go at 6f is at least worth trying. I’m hopeful that he will benefit from it.

Run To Freedom has already shown an aptitude for this course and this surface when winning his maiden here, beating the smart Highland Avenue. Soar Above has a brilliant record over this course and distance and is a big danger but this may be slightly too competitive. Nevertheless, he’s one to keep an eye on throughout the winter at Kempton Park.
