We have three selections, two at Haydock and one at Salisbury.
Tip 1 – 2.35pm Salisbury
This is undeniably the best race of the day in the UK. It is an interesting race and there is a distinct possibility of some of these fillies becoming high class. Tardis looks the correct favourite after beating a subsequent listed scorer at Newbury. The extra furlong won’t inconvenience her. Intelligentsia is another fascinating contender who beat a smart filly who has since gone on to win a Group 3 at Newmarket.
Perfect News has an outstanding pedigree, by Frankel out of Besharah. Besharah herself was a smart two-year-old with her career highlight winning the Lowther. Perfect News clearly isn’t quite as precocious as her dam but the underlying talent is there. She looked noticeably green and inexperienced when winning at Carlisle last time. Briefly becoming outpaced turning for home, she challenged wide but tended to lug in behind the other runners. She should improve for that and I’d be hopeful she can be competitive up in grade today.
2.35pm Salisbury – 1pt win Perfect News 8/1 general
Tip 2 – 4.20pm Haydock
Given the weight concession and potentially lenient mark, I thought that Evident Beauty would be a little shorter than the current odds on offer. She won on her debut and has arguably taken two further steps forward – albeit in defeat – under a penalty since.
Evident Beauty shaped last time as if she will benefit from a step up in trip. That is reflected in her pedigree given the dam is a half-sister to numerous winners including the top-class The Fugue.
Evident Beauty looks to have plenty of ability herself, this mark could underestimate her ability and this looks an ideal bit of placing for her to record her second career success.
4.20pm Haydock – 2pt win Evident Beauty 2/1 general
Tip 3 – 4.55pm Haydock
It’s interesting to see Living Legend turned out again so quickly only six days after running well following a mammoth absence. He shaped with plenty of promise at Newmarket and looked to have the race pretty much sewn up two furlongs out. Quite fresh in the early part of the race and racing exuberantly throughout, those exertions quite clearly took their toll.
The quick turnaround could work against him but Mark Johnston has successfully brought other horses back from significant absences to go on to hold their form well. Living Legend might get an easy enough time in front here and could be hard to catch.
4.55pm Haydock – 1pt win Living Legend 7/2 general
