UK Horse Racing Tips – 20 September

Moderate racing all round today and the majority of races look extremely trappy. We have just the one selection, coming in the opener at Wolverhampton.

Tip 1 – 5.30pm Wolverhampton

This looks a wide-open race on paper and plausible cases can be made for all of the runners. At the prices, the one who looks most interesting is course specialist Mutabaahy.

He has a much higher mark to contend with on the all-weather compared to turf but it’s justified. Seven of his eight victories on an artificial surface have come at Wolverhampton, with six of those seven Wolverhampton victories coming over this minimum 5f trip.

Mutabaahy remains feasibly handicapped, he won off this mark back in March and has previously defied a higher mark over this course and distance. He ran right up to his best here last time with a fast finishing 3rd beaten around a neck. The handicapper has been generous not raising him in the weights for that near miss.

He has a difficult draw to overcome in 9 today but this race looks to be littered with pace. Hopefully that negates the wide draw and provides him with an opportunity to finish strongly and pounce late.

Hyde Park Barracks, Street Life, True Hero, Kim Wexler, Expert Opinion, Wings Of A Dove and Kingsholm all like to lead or sit prominently so there should be a good pace to aim at. You’d imagine that a couple of these may change tactics to give them the best chance of winning, but nevertheless this should be run at a solid gallop. That will suit Mutabaahy and he can track the pace and come home strongly. Given his record here and the likely pace scenario set to suit, he looks overpriced.
