UK Horse Racing Tips – 25 September

Lots of racing today but aside from the Group 1s at Newmarket, it isn’t wildly enticing. I just have one bet today in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket.

The Middle Park is a cracker but a difficult puzzle to solve. Perfect Power was seriously impressive in the Prix Morny at Deauville but I’d have some doubts over his run style today. That’s not to say he won’t win but given the way Newmarket has been riding this week, it could be tough for him. It’s been unseasonably fast ground and, on the whole, it’s been important to be on or near the pace. I think Dr Zempf has an abundance of talent and I was tempted to put him up. He looks a work in progress and has more ability than he’s shown. I’d be slightly concerned about him on the undulations so I’ll leave it as a watching brief.

Tip 1 – 2.25pm Newmarket

Sacred Bridge was visually very impressive on her first foray in to group company last time at the Curragh. She destroyed the opposition and was in a different league to them. The second, Geocentric, didn’t really do much for that form when beaten a similar distance in a listed race at Ayr last week.

There’s little between Sandrine and Zain Claudette on their Lowther run and the former was arguably slightly unlucky. At the prices, Illustrating looks interesting. She has some solid form over 5f and her latest run at Longchamp can be upgraded.

It’s often a significant advantage to be drawn low, race on the rail and be prominent on the 5f course at Longchamp. Illustrating was mid-division, caught four or five wide in the middle and couldn’t quite reel in the leaders. I’ve no doubt she was the best horse in the race.

Doing her best work late on too she’s now even more interesting upped to 6f. It’s possibly a testament to her ability that she’s been able to a fair level over 5f given her pedigree. Her siblings have won at trips in excess of a mile. The dam, Maids Causeway, was a multiple 7f winner (including a Group 2) at two and then went on to win the Coronation Stakes at three.

Given her pedigree and backed up by her run style, 6f could illicit further improvement. Also, she has plenty of pace as evidenced by her 5f form so she should be able to sit handy and this test could well suit her.
