UK Horse Racing Tips – 8 October
Excellent racing today with competitive fields at both York and Newmarket. Likewise, a good card at Chepstow to get the jumps season underway in earnest. We have one selection at Newmarket.
Tip 1 – 2.25pm Newmarket
The Oh So Sharp Stakes looks a typically competitive affair and chances can be given to a large number of these. It will take a hugely impressive effort to propel one of these up in the antepost market for the 1000 Guineas on the basis of what they’ve achieved thus far.
There is little between Pearl Glory and Perfect News on their Salisbury running. That was a messy race and on pedigree alone, there could be more to come from Perfect News. Good American was professional on debut, looks up to being competitive at this level but has to prove herself on the ground.
At a bigger price, I think Rishes Baar is interesting. She was extremely green on debut and needed every inch of the 6f at Haydock to overhaul Vertiginous. That was a solid performance given Vertiginous was rated 99 and has boosted that form since. However, it’s possibly not wise to take that form literally given the 6f probably stretched that rival. Vertiginous improvement subsequently came when dropped back to 5f.
Rishes Baar again displayed signs of greenness when stepped up to group company at Ayr. She did finish off her race nicely suggesting there was more to come. On the bare form, she will have to improve again to be competitive here. The step up to 7f on pedigree and indeed run style suggests it will suit. If she improves from her last run, she can outrun her double figure price. Ryan Moore in the saddle for the first time is a big positive too.
2.25pm Newmarket – 1pt win Rishes Baar 11/1 general
The remainder of the card at Newmarket is a cracker. I think Twilight Son is well worth taking on at the prices in the Cornwalis and Guilded might be able to get her first group win. The Challenge Stakes is wide open and if the ground is riding on the slow side, it could be worth chancing Horoscope. Inspiral looks all the rage in the Fillies’ Mile and rightly so but Concert Hall might be a nice each-way alternative. The Old Rowley Cup is a handicap with a lot of depth and I think the gelding operation could work the oracle for Candelford. Farhan is another of interest upped to 1m4f again.
