We have two selections today, both coming at Wolverhampton.

Tip 1 – 1.30pm Wolverhampton

Our first selection comes in the 6f novice event for three-year-olds. Prop Forward clearly has plenty of ability and a replication of those two previous efforts would probably suffice. However, he shoulders a penalty and the form of his Bath win isn’t working out well at all. He looks short enough in the betting and I’m happy to look elsewhere.

One I feel who is overlooked somewhat in the market is Mellencamp. He ultimately finished tailed off on very soft ground at Nottingham but showed up well for the first 4f. It’s worth noting that he was a significant market springer before the off. Backed in from 40/1 to as low as 7/1 so they evidently thought he’d go better. It’s admittedly disconcerting that he’s not been seen again since May but this race, bar the favourite, isn’t the strongest.

Mellencamp has a nice sprinting pedigree with the dam being a half-sister to the smart Tiggy Wiggy. Brian O’Rourke has made a promising start to his training career and got off the mark yesterday with a winner at Yarmouth. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mellencamp stepped up markedly on his debut effort.

Tip 2 – 3.15pm Wolverhampton

Our second and final selection of the day comes in the 5f handicap at 3.15pm. Charming Kid remains well handicapped and is in form but hasn’t won for over two and a half years. Moreover, he has a moderate career strike rate of 2-20.

Antony Brittain’s two runners are respected and both go particularly well at Wolverhampton. Atiyah ran deplorably at York last time and has to bounce back. However, there are plenty of reasons to believe she can do that at her favoured venue. Her two course and distance runs this year have resulted in two comfortable victories. She clearly has an affinity for Dunstall Park and can resume the winning thread here today. Her form at Wolverhampton is much better than her turf form and she remains relatively unexposed compared to her rivals after only nine career starts.
