The drying ground at Chepstow will be a big help to plenty of the runners today, not least Arthur’s Reuben, who looks a big price in the staying handicap chase (2.37pm).

The eight year old has had just two runs for his new yard (same owner) this season, both on unsuitably soft ground, in November and February.  I thought there was plenty to like about the way he travelled through the race on the first of them, for which he didn’t go unbacked.  The form of that race worked out particularly well, with all three in front of him winning since.

I wouldn’t read too much into his run at Uttoxeter last time, as his record suggests heavy ground isn’t his bag, and he comes here off a 12lbs lower mark than when fourth in a 0-105 on good to soft ground 15 months ago.

Sean Curran does an excellent job with his small team and has had two winners from his last six runners, which is a boost to Arthur’s Reuben’s chances.  On a good mark and with conditions in his favour, he is overpriced at 12-1.

1pt win, 0.5pt place Arthur’s Reuben @ 12-1 4 places (William Hill, Paddy Power, Betfair, Boylesports)
