One bet on the card at Fakenham this afternoon, with Happy And Content looking a potential improver on her return from a break.

Just a five year old, she showed much-improved form on her handicap debut at Doncaster at the end of January, when fitted with a first-time tongue-tie.  I don’t think she was helped by several of the hurdles being omitted, but she got into a nice rhythm in front and certainly showed the requisite ability to be winning off her lowly mark.

Big-field, low-grade handicap hurdles at Doncaster can often be a plentiful source for future winners and this one was no exception. The second finished 2/16 and 1/14 on next two starts, the third won a 17-runner contest next time, the fourth an 11-runner race on next start and the sixth an 11-runner race two starts later…so there were some fairly-handicapped novices in the field!

This looks a considerably weaker affair and though she has been off since, the fact her trainer is sending her on the 360-mile round trip suggests she is ready to go on her first start of the new season.

3.55pm Fakenham – 1pt win Happy And Content @ 8-1 (Paddy Power, Betfair, Unibet, 15/2 elsewhere)
